A stunningly passionate performance of the 18 year old Mendelssohn’s profound response to the news of Beethovens death just a few weeks earlier. There are countless links and references to Beethovens late quartets here, not least the A Minor op 132 and the similar sounding song quotation at the beginning and end to Beethovens ‘must it be?’. This is a real masterpiece, and this quartet do it wonderful justice here!

This is MIND BLOWING! The piece is fantastic: so groovy, but at times so gorgeous. Masterfully orchestrated, too - the chopping stuff and the voicings of chords are so satisfying to listen to! The best part is the ensemble and their chemistry and talent. Wow.
